We are seeking a Floating Teacher to join our collaborative early education team in Gorham! This flexible role is ideal for an educator who loves working with children from infancy through Pre-K and enjoys supporting classrooms where needed. As a Floating Teacher, you will provide essential classroom coverage, assist Lead Teachers, and help create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment where every child can thrive.
Position Summary
The Floating Teacher works across all age groups, partnering with Lead Teachers to implement curriculum, foster positive behavior, and build strong relationships with children and families. This role requires adaptability, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for early childhood development.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Support
- Assist with daily routines, activities, and classroom materials.
- Support implementation of developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and organized classroom environment.
- Document children’s progress and share updates with families through Procare or similar platforms.
Student Engagement
- Interact with children to support social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
- Provide individualized and small-group support.
- Build nurturing relationships that foster trust, security, and belonging.
- Encourage respect for peers, teachers, and classroom materials.
Behavior Guidance
- Reinforce classroom expectations and positive behavior strategies.
- Support conflict resolution and model empathy, kindness, and problem-solving.
- Partner with Lead Teachers and families to encourage positive behavior.
- Serve as a professional and positive role model for children.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of children at all times.
- Follow licensing regulations and maintain required teacher-student ratios.
- Help maintain a clean, orderly, and sanitary classroom environment.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies.
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with staff, families, and administrators.
- Share meaningful updates with families about children’s progress and activities.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Collaborate with colleagues to address classroom needs with a child-centered approach.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with infants, toddlers, or preschoolers in an educational or childcare setting.
- Knowledge of child development and early learning best practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Flexible, compassionate, and committed to creating a nurturing learning environment.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
