The Theatre Stage Director is in charge of organizing and successfully executing the spring community show at the Roselle Park District (December - March); approx 3 rehearsals per week (2.5 hours each), then Tech Week additional hours/days.
This position is an Independent Contractor. Terms to be decided when contract is drawn up.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Must be 18 years old.
- Preferred Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in theatre arts, directing, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in working or performing in Theatre Production.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a theatre production leadership position.
- Must have knowledge of theatre production process.
- Must have flexibility and adaptability to handle last-minute changes.
- Must have strong leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate in a firm, kind, polite, respectful, and calm manner.
- Ability to encourage and lead a larger number of people to achieve a high standard of backstage discipline.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with children.
- Ability to respond and communicate appropriately with residents and staff under stressful conditions.
- CPR/First Aid certification, preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:
- Provides participants with information regarding the expectations and format of the rehearsals and production.
- Auditions actors and selects the cast based on their ability to portray the characters and sing or dance well enough for the production.
- Provides a safe environment during rehearsals and production.
- Oversees all aspects of the production process including casting, rehearsals, scenery construction, light design, costumes, and choreography.
- Directs the actors on stage to ensure that they are delivering their lines convincingly and performing their actions in a natural manner.
- Creates a detailed plan for each performance that includes stage setup, lighting design, and sound cues.
- Runs rehearsals and practices until the very end of the production.
- Organizes an efficient rehearsal schedule.
- Is present during all performances.
- Collaborates and communicates with Coordinators to convey the best possible production of the musical.
- Communicates effectively with parent volunteers.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with subordinates, co-workers, and the public.
- Treats public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention. Is courteous in all cases.
- Helps organize a quick and successful strike at the end of production.
