Job Overview
We are seeking a seasoned, exemplary, and compassionate Lead Behavioral Health Technician (Lead BHT) to guide our team of dedicated technicians. The Lead BHT is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the therapeutic milieu, mentoring BHT staff, and ensuring the highest standard of client care and safety in our residential and outpatient settings. As a senior member of the treatment team, the Lead BHT acts as a role model and a primary point of contact for BHTs, working closely with clinical and administrative leadership to maintain a safe, structured, and recovery-focused environment. Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Mentorship:
- Provide daily guidance, support, and on-the-floor leadership to the BHT team, acting as the designated shift lead.
- Train and mentor new and existing Behavioral Health Technicians on program protocols, therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and documentation standards.
- Assist in the coordination of BHT staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage.
- Serve as a primary liaison between the BHT staff and the clinical leadership team, facilitating clear communication and collaboration.
- Lead shift-change meetings and team huddles to ensure continuity of care and address immediate concerns.
- Review staff documentation (progress notes, incident reports) for quality, accuracy, and timeliness, providing constructive feedback as needed.
- Model best practices in all aspects of client interaction, boundary setting, and professionalism.
Direct Client Care & Milieu Management:
- Oversee and ensure the direct supervision and support of clients, enforcing program rules and individual treatment plans.
- Monitor complex client cases, providing advanced behavioral support and promptly reporting significant changes or concerns to the clinical team.
- Expertly utilize advanced de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies, guiding other BHTs during challenging situations.
- Co-facilitate psychoeducational and process groups, and delegate facilitation to capable staff under clinical supervision.
- Ensure the safety and security of the facility by overseeing regular rounds and environmental checks.
- Manage client intake and discharge procedures, ensuring a smooth and supportive transition.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of all company policies, ethical standards, and confidentiality requirements, ensuring team-wide compliance.
- Collaborate effectively with therapists, nurses, and case managers on high-level case conceptualization and treatment planning.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience working in a behavioral health, mental health, or substance abuse treatment setting.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a senior, lead, or supervisory capacity is required.
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems; specific experience with Kipu is a significant plus.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities with the ability to guide and develop a team.
- Advanced knowledge of de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
- In-depth understanding of HIPAA regulations, client confidentiality, and professional ethics.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, composed, and decisive in high-pressure situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced certifications such as Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC/CADC), Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), or similar credential.
- Experience developing and facilitating staff trainings.
- Experience working with dual-diagnosis populations in both residential and outpatient settings.
