MiNDS Cleanroom Instrumentation and Facility Technician

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has an amazing opportunity as a Micro‑Nanoscale Devices & Systems (MiNDS) Cleanroom Instrumentation and Facility Technician. The MiNDS Cleanroom Instrumentation and Facility Technician will oversee the daily operations of the MiNDS facilities, including cleanroom environments and advanced micro/nano‑fabrication equipment. In this role, the Technician operates, maintains, calibrates, and repairs a wide range of laboratory instruments, high‑temperature systems, and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) systems while ensuring all laboratory and cleanroom spaces are properly prepared for instructional and research use. The position supports faculty with weekly laboratory experiments, delivers training and demonstrations on equipment and safety protocols, and provides guidance to students and researchers on capstone, independent, and funded projects. Additionally, the Technician develops and enforces safety procedures, oversees hazardous material handling and disposal, and ensures all laboratory documentation and manuals are current and well-organized.

This role also includes supervising, training, and directing student workers and ensuring they follow proper safety and cleanroom etiquette at all times. The MiNDS Cleanroom Instrumentation and Facility Technician will collaborate with faculty on experiment development, equipment needs, and facility improvements, while maintaining a safe, efficient, and innovative environment that supports teaching, research, and hands-on learning within the MiNDS cleanroom facilities.

Qualified candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two to five years of professional work experience. Four years of additional experience in lieu of education.

In addition to the above qualifications, preferred candidates will use various software to operate thin film deposition and measurement equipment. Preferred candidates demonstrate excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships with faculty, students, and staff. The ability to work with minimal supervision while managing multiple responsibilities and maintaining a strong attention to detail is strongly preferred.

Salary range is $50,000 - $60,000. Salary is competitive. A higher salary may be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
