What are the responsibilities and job description for the Knitwear Designer position at Rose Holding USA Inc.?
Rose Holding USA is the United States arm of Rose Group, a vertically integrated sweater and knitwear manufacturer based in Bangladesh. We manage design, development, and production programs for established brands including French Connection, Karl Lagerfeld, DKNY/Nautica, Margaritaville, and Chaps.
Our vertical structure means our designers work in direct partnership with the manufacturing team producing the garment — an uncommon degree of access in this market, and a meaningful advantage in both speed and product quality.
The Role
Reporting into the New York team, the Sweater Designer will own seasonal development from concept through production handoff:
- Develop seasonal sweater collections including sketches, CADs, colorways, and yarn and stitch direction
- Build stitch stories across cables, jacquard, intarsia, pointelle, links-links, and novelty textures
- Specify gauge, yarn count, and construction; author complete tech packs
- Translate market and runway trend research into commercially viable product for US buyers
- Present seasonal concept boards and line reviews to buyers
- Monitor competitor assortments, retail pricing, and emerging category trends
Working With Our Bangladesh Team
This role involves substantial, ongoing collaboration with our production and technical teams in Bangladesh. It is a core function of the position rather than a peripheral one:
- Daily communication with factory merchandisers, knitting technicians, and QA staff
- Review and approval of knit-downs, swatches, protos, and fit samples in partnership with the technical team
- Troubleshooting construction, gauge, and yarn issues directly with the mill and knitting floor
- Aligning design intent with production capability early in the calendar to protect margin and delivery
- Periodic travel to Bangladesh may be required for seasonal development and line reviews
Candidates should be comfortable operating across a nine-to-ten hour time difference and building working relationships with an overseas team. Bengali language ability is a plus but is not a requirement.
Qualifications
- 3 years of dedicated sweater design experience across full-fashion and cut-and-sew
- Comprehensive knowledge of gauges (3gg–16gg), yarn types, and knit construction
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; Shima Seiki or Stoll experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to read and correct knit-downs
- Prior experience working with overseas manufacturing partners
- A portfolio demonstrating both design sensibility and commercial judgment
