What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist position at ROSE HILL CENTER INC?
General Statement of Duties: Providing engagement, support, and mentoring to residents of the Rose Hill Residential Rehabilitation, Transitional Living, and Community Support Programs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Engagement and mentoring of residents of Rose Hill’s Residential Rehabilitation Program.
- Assisting the Admissions Department with family/potential resident tours.
- Assisting newly admitted residents on the day of admission with the structure of the residential program, daily/weekly schedule and treatment experience.
- Assisting staff with off-campus outings by accompanying residents and staff on outings.
- Facilitating psychoeducation and didactic residential groups.
- Facilitating recovery group for TLP/CSP participants.
- Participating/supporting residents in the person-centered treatment planning process.
- With requisite completion of training, licensing and experience, meeting with assigned residents for one-to-one mentoring sessions.
- Participating in regularly scheduled communications with the resident’s treatment team, including the therapist, psychiatrist, vocational coordinator, and social communication specialist.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED certificate).
- Recipient of mental health treatment or services for at least one year with a substantial life disruption due to a mental health issue.
- Peer Support Specialist license or be eligible to complete training and licensing in the State of Michigan.
- Sustained mental health stability for at least six months since the most recent residential treatment or hospitalization discharge.
- Some college experience or degree.
- Past work experience or training in the mental health/social services field.
- Ability to meet the certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to meet the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of the residents.
- Capable of handling emergency situations.
