Position Summary

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science is seeking to fill a full-time Bus Driver position to drive a 20 passenger bus and/or 14-passenger van. Hours of availability 32.5 hours per week Monday – Friday, no holidays. Some weekends may be required upon supervisor’s request.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicle in a safe manner, complying with all Federal and State laws. 
  • Comply with university and department policies. 
  • Reports to dispatcher via radio any route detours, or whenever passengers might require assistance of police, medical, or other services. 
  • Reports passenger counts. 
  • Maintains daily vehicle inspection logs and completes accident/incident reports when necessary. 
  • Basic maintenance of vehicle. 
  • Must complete pre-trip checks of vehicle. 
  • Other special duties assigned or required will come from the immediate supervisor. 

Conditions of Employment

  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check, pre-employment drug screen and a general physical
  • Must be able to pass random drug screenings. 

 Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma / GED or equivalent
  • Must be at least 25 years of age, and have a valid class “B or C”, with passenger endorsement, Illinois Commercial Driver’s license. 
  • Must have a stable work history and a record of safe driving (5 years).
  • Prior experience transporting passengers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of the roads and routes you’re driving on.
  • Confident driving skills.
  • Excellent understanding of the Highway Code and traffic regulations.
  • Professional, responsible, assertive, and understanding manner.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Ten plus years of driving passengers.

 Typical Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and driving.
  • Some lifting and bending.
  • Position requires physical and mental alertness
