Position Summary:
The Wait Assist/Food Runner plays a critical support role within the service team, ensuring a seamless guest experience by maintaining cleanliness, organization, and attentiveness throughout service. This position requires a high level of professionalism, adaptability, and teamwork. Wait Assists may also step into food running duties when needed and must be prepared to deliver accurate, confident tableside presentations. This role is essential in maintaining the flow of service and upholding the hospitality standards of the restaurant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Arrive in uniform and prepared for service.
- Bus and reset tables in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintain fully stocked service stations throughout the shift.
- Polish and restock all necessary glassware and flatware.
- Routinely change sanitizer buckets, rags, and crumbers as needed.
- Engage with guests warmly and attentively to anticipate their needs.
- Greet tables with water and amuse when applicable.
- Maintain cleanliness of the dining room, addressing spills or messes immediately.
- Run food from the pass to the correct table and seat position, confidently delivering descriptions of dishes.
- Ask if guests need anything else before departing the table and fulfill any reasonable requests promptly.
- Assist with clearing plates and glassware as time allows.
- Crumb tables as needed to maintain cleanliness and presentation.
- Complete weekly cleaning responsibilities and support overall tidiness.
- Help box and bag to-go food.
- Assist hosts with seating during high-volume periods.
- Refill guest water glasses regularly.
- Practice "full hands in / full hands out" and teamwork throughout service.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Clear and calm communication skills, especially in fast-paced or high-pressure settings.
- Strong ability to follow direction and adapt to the needs of the service team.
- In-depth knowledge of the full restaurant menu, ingredients, and preparation techniques.
- Confident in delivering accurate and engaging tableside dish descriptions.
