We are looking for a skilled professional to assist our lead butcher at a brand new market and eatery in Plainfield, IN. Roots Market & Eatery is a neighborhood destination focused on premium, all-natural products including expertly butchered meats, scratch-baked goods, and fresh, seasonal café offerings. The ideal candidate will be experienced in whole-animal butchery, dedicated to food safety, and excited to engage with customers in a market setting.
Responsibilities:
- Cut, trim, and prepare a variety of meat cuts including beef, pork, poultry, and lamb
- Assist in producing house-made sausages, marinated meats, and other craft items
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work area
- Interact with customers, provide product knowledge, and suggest cooking tips
- Follow food safety standards
- Work closely with bakery and kitchen teams for collaborative menu items
- Assist our head butcher in all aspects of our meat program
Qualifications:
- Some professional butchering experience preferred (retail or restaurant)
- Proficiency in knife handling
- Understanding of meat yields and pricing
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Passion for high-quality, responsibly sourced food
