What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aftercare Guide and Adjunct Instructor position at Roots Learning Community?
Roots Academy is a small, place-based microschool serving elementary and middle school students in coastal Maine. We are seeking a reliable, playful, and caring Aftercare Guide / Adjunct Instructor to join our team for 2–4 afternoons per week.
Schedule
- 2–4 afternoons per week (schedule to be determined upon hiring)
- Approximately 2:00 or 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
- Opportunity to grow into a 35 hour/week position in June and July through our Summer Camp program
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support children during after-school hours
- Lead or support outdoor play, games, and creative activities
- Help create a safe, warm, and engaging environment
- Support snack, clean-up, and end-of-day routines
- Collaborate with Roots staff to ensure consistency and care
- (Optional) Support STEM, art, or hands-on enrichment activities during school day hours
Qualifications
- Enjoys working with children and brings a positive, playful attitude
- Consistent, reliable, and punctual
- Comfortable supervising mixed-age groups
- Experience with children in school, camp, or childcare settings preferred
- Interest or background in STEM or art is a plus

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5.0 – 10.0 per week
