What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing and Events Intern position at Rooted?
About Rooted:
Rooted is a marketplace dedicated to supporting independent, underrepresented small businesses. We provide a platform where diverse creators can grow their brands, without the hidden costs found on other marketplaces. Beyond the digital space, we bring our community together through pop-up events to support entrepreneurs and their passions. At Rooted, we are committed to creating opportunities to help small businesses thrive.
Role Overview:
As the Marketing & Events Intern, you’ll play a key role in shaping Rooted’s early-stage brand presence and community engagement. You’ll support day-to-day marketing efforts across social media, digital content, and brand communications — while also helping to plan and execute our upcoming exclusive launch party and pop-up event. This is a hands-on opportunity to work directly with the founder and creative team, contribute to meaningful projects, and gain real experience across marketing, event coordination, and startup operations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in creating and scheduling social media content (Instagram, TikTok, etc)
- Design graphics and visuals using Canva or similar platforms
- Write captions, campaign copy, and newsletter content in Rooted’s tone
- Research current trends and community insights to guide strategy
- Support outreach to small brands, creators, and collaborators
- Help coordinate logistics for Rooted’s exclusive launch event and pop-up market
- Communicate with vendors, track RSVPs, and organize key planning documents
- Assist with event promotions through email and social media
- Support day-of setup, vendor coordination, check-in, and content capture
- Help with post-event follow-up, content, and impact reporting
What We Are Looking For:
- Based in Los Angeles (or able to attend in-person events, if needed)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, and emerging content trends
- Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and Canva
- Creative, proactive, and self-directed. Able to take initiative in a startup setting
- Passionate about culture, storytelling, and small business advocacy
- Previous experience in social media, marketing, or events
- Understanding of South Asian culture (not required, but a plus)
- Experience working with startups, campus orgs, or personal creative projects
How To Apply:
To apply, please submit your resume and a portfolio that showcases your creative or marketing-related work. This could include social media content, event planning materials, design projects, or any relevant experience that highlights your skills and style. We want to get a sense of your voice, creativity, and attention to detail. Please email your materials to byrooted.inquiries@gmail.com.
Please note that this is an unpaid internship. As an early-stage startup, we aren’t currently able to offer financial compensation, but we’re fully committed to making this a meaningful and growth-focused experience. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to branding, marketing strategy, content creation, and event coordination while working directly with the founder in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. You’ll have the opportunity to build your portfolio and contribute to a brand that’s rooted in community and impact. Upon successful completion, we’re happy to provide a professional reference or letter of recommendation and you’ll receive an exclusive invite to our private launch event and pop-up. If it’s a strong fit on both sides, we’re also open to potentially extending the internship beyond September.
