What are the responsibilities and job description for the Busser/Food Runner position at Rooster | Bagel Cafe • Kitchen • Bar?
Food Runner / Busser
ROOSTER | Edmonds, WA$18/hour Team Tips Full Benefits Annual Performance Bonus
The ROOSTER Way
ROOSTER is an all-day bagel café, kitchen and bar built around one purpose: Leave Every Guest Better Than We Found Them.
To us, hospitality is more than friendly service. It is how people feel when they are with us—welcomed, noticed and genuinely cared for. It belongs to everyone, regardless of position. We are one team with distinct specialties and shared ownership of the guest experience.
We hire first for character, maturity, initiative and hospitality instincts. Skills can be taught; caring cannot.
People thrive at ROOSTER when they notice what needs to happen next, move with purpose and take pride in doing things well. They are kind without being flimsy, fast without becoming frantic and professional without feeling fake. They ask questions, accept coaching, offer ideas, own their mistakes and step in when a guest or teammate needs help. “That’s not my job” is not part of how we work.
Our culture is guided by four promises:
Make Different Mistakes. We expect people to try, learn and grow—not to be perfect.
Get Better Every Day.Curiosity is stronger than ego, and there is always a better way.
Be Good to One Another. We assume positive intent, communicate directly and treat one another with respect. Gossip, cattiness, territorial behavior and side conversations that divide the team do not belong here.
Do the Right Thing. We act with integrity, follow through and make good decisions even when no one is watching.
ROOSTER’s leaders are responsible for protecting this culture. That means setting clear expectations, listening, coaching privately, recognizing great work and creating an environment where people can ask for help, challenge an idea respectfully and be honest about a mistake.
We work hard, hold high standards and have fun doing it. We want thoughtful, accountable and generous people who care about their craft, their teammates and the experience we create together.
If you take initiative, stay steady when things get busy and believe the details matter, you may be our kind of person.
The Role
The Food Runner / Busser helps keep ROOSTER's dining room moving, organized and ready while making sure food gets from the kitchen to our guests quickly, accurately and with care.
This is an active, guest-facing position and an important part of our team-based hospitality model.
You'll work closely with Expo to deliver completed orders, clear finished plates, clean and reset tables, restock service areas and notice what the dining room needs next.
At ROOSTER, food running and bussing aren't invisible support jobs. Every interaction with a guest is part of hospitality.
You may be the person who delivers someone's meal, notices they need an extra napkin, clears a plate so they have more room or resets a table so the next guest walks into a space that feels ready for them.
The details matter.
You Will Thrive Here If You...
- Move quickly without becoming frantic
- Notice what needs attention before someone has to ask
- Take pride in keeping spaces clean, organized and guest-ready
- Are comfortable being active throughout your shift
- Communicate clearly with Expo, the kitchen and guest-facing team
- Understand that urgency and rushing are not the same thing
- Care about delivering food accurately and professionally
- Are comfortable interacting with guests
- Can prioritize what needs to happen next
- Stay aware of the dining room rather than focusing on only one task
- Step in when a guest or teammate needs help
- Take as much pride in a clean, reset table as you do in delivering a great-looking plate
What You Will Do
- Run food from Expo to the correct guests and tables
- Confirm table numbers, seat positions and order details before leaving the pass
- Deliver food promptly and professionally
- Communicate missing items, incorrect dishes or guest questions to Expo or the appropriate team member
- Clear finished plates, glassware and other items throughout the guest's visit
- Bus, clean, sanitize and reset tables efficiently
- Maintain clean and organized dining and guest-facing areas
- Restock napkins, utensils, glassware, service supplies and other items as needed
- Monitor service stations and communicate low supplies before they run out
- Support Expo during high-volume periods
- Assist Operations Hosts and other team members with dining-room needs
- Help maintain clear pathways and safe, organized service areas
- Complete assigned opening, side-work, transition and closing responsibilities
- Follow food-safety, sanitation and cleaning procedures
- Communicate spills, broken items, safety concerns or maintenance needs immediately
- Answer straightforward guest questions and connect guests with the appropriate team member when additional assistance is needed
- Notice when a guest needs something and help when you're able rather than walking past it
Supporting the Flow
A great Food Runner / Busser makes the entire restaurant better.
When food leaves the pass quickly, quality is protected.
When finished plates disappear naturally, guests are more comfortable.
When tables are reset quickly and correctly, the next guest gets a better first impression.
When Expo knows exactly where food is going, the kitchen flows better.
And when the dining room stays stocked, clean and organized, the entire team can focus more of its attention on hospitality.
This role requires someone who can see the room, not just the task in front of them.
You'll have clear responsibilities and priorities, but we also want you to notice what's happening around you and communicate when something needs attention.
