Middle School Head Wrestling Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director and/or School Principal
Position Summary
The Middle School Head Wrestling Coach is responsible for organizing, developing, and leading a competitive and educational wrestling program that supports the physical, social, and emotional growth of student-athletes. The coach will promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and character while ensuring a safe and positive athletic experience aligned with school and district expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices that develop wrestling skills, conditioning, and knowledge of rules and strategies

Supervise student-athletes during all practices, competitions, meetings, and travel

Foster a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, respect, effort, and academic responsibility

Teach and model appropriate conduct, ethical behavior, and leadership

Ensure compliance with school, district, conference, and state athletic association rules and policies

Maintain accurate records, including attendance, eligibility, equipment inventory, and injury reports

Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, school staff, and administration

Collaborate with the Athletic Director on scheduling, budgeting, and program needs

Ensure proper care, storage, and accountability of athletic equipment and uniforms

Enforce safety procedures and respond appropriately to injuries and emergencies

Support academic expectations and monitor student-athlete eligibility

Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions

Perform other duties as assigned by school administration or Athletic Director
Qualifications

Previous wrestling coaching or competitive wrestling experience preferred

Experience working with middle school–aged students strongly preferred

Knowledge of wrestling techniques, rules, and safety practices

Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills

Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues

Ability to serve as a positive role model for student-athletes
Required Certifications (or ability to obtain prior to season)

CPR/First Aid certification

Coaching certification as required by state or district
-
Background check clearance

Concussion awareness training
Physical Requirements

Ability to demonstrate wrestling techniques and drills

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift equipment as needed

Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays during the athletic season
