Middle School Head Cheer Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director and/or School Principal
Position Summary
The Middle School Head Cheer Coach is responsible for organizing, leading, and supervising the school’s cheerleading program in a manner that supports student growth, school spirit, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The coach provides instruction in cheerleading skills while ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive environment aligned with district and school expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and conduct cheerleading practices that are age-appropriate and developmentally sound.

Teach proper cheer techniques, chants, motions, jumps, and basic stunting consistent with middle school safety standards.

Promote teamwork, discipline, respect, and positive behavior among student-athletes.

Supervise cheerleaders during practices, games, performances, and events.

Ensure compliance with district policies, school rules, and athletic regulations.

Emphasize student safety and follow established safety guidelines and concussion protocols.

Communicate effectively with athletes, parents/guardians, school administrators, and athletic staff.

Coordinate game-day routines and support school athletic events as assigned.

Maintain accurate rosters, attendance, and required documentation.

Model professional conduct and serve as a positive role model for students.

Support the overall mission and values of the school and athletic program.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree preferred.

Previous cheerleading and/or coaching experience preferred.

Knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals and middle school–appropriate stunting.

Ability to work positively with middle school students.

Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.

Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends during the season.

Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

Completion of district-required coaching training and background check.
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods and actively participate in practices.

Ability to demonstrate cheer motions and basic skills.

Ability to lift and spot students safely as required by cheerleading activities.
Terms of Employment
-
Seasonal position compensated by a district-approved stipend.

Length of season and duties determined by the athletic calendar.
