The Superintendent is responsible for overall field leadership and execution of assigned construction projects. This role oversees daily job site operations to ensure work is performed safely, in accordance with contract documents, on schedule, within quality standards, and aligned with project budgets. The Superintendent provides direction to field personnel and subcontractors while partnering closely with Project Management to achieve successful project outcomes.
Travel Expectations: This is an on-site, field-based position requiring daily presence at assigned project sites. Travel to other project locations may be required based on assignment throughout the Midwest. Roncelli’s headquarters in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Role and Responsibilities
Field Operations & Execution
- Lead and manage all daily field operations, including sequencing, logistics, work plans, and manpower coordination.
- Coordinate subcontractors, equipment, material deliveries, and workforce activities to maintain efficient workflow.
- Develop and maintain three-week look-ahead schedules and support overall project schedule execution.
- Monitor progress and provide updates on activity start and completion dates.
- Develop and implement recovery plans when necessary to maintain project milestones.
- Maintain project as-built drawings and field documentation.
- Conduct and document pre-construction surveys.
Schedule, Cost & Reporting
- Draft and support Weekly Progress Reports for review and distribution.
- Track and document daily manpower, subcontractor reports, and time and material work.
- Monitor and control general conditions and general requirements costs in collaboration with Project Management.
- Review and approve subcontractor draft pay applications and verify percent complete.
- Support labor reporting requirements, including certified payroll and DBE/SBE documentation when required.
- Maintain visual project tracking tools and milestone documentation.
Quality Control
- Partner with the Project Manager to develop and implement the Project Quality Control Program.
- Monitor inspections and testing to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
- Draft Non-Conformance Reports and coordinate resolution.
- Enforce quality standards in accordance with plans, specifications, and company procedures.
Safety & Compliance
- Lead implementation and enforcement of the Jobsite Safety Program in compliance with Roncelli policies, contractual requirements, and state and federal regulations.
- Coordinate with Corporate Safety and onsite safety personnel, when assigned.
- Conduct subcontractor safety orientations and review Pre-Task Plans.
- Monitor housekeeping standards and enforce safe work practices.
- Issue Safety Hazard Notifications as required.
- Coordinate safety inspections, insurance inspections, and governmental inspections.
- Draft and forward accident and incident reports to Project Management and Corporate Safety.
- Coordinate permit inspections and documentation of approvals.
- Coordinate utility shutdowns, sweeps, and owner operational disruptions.
- Implement LEED waste disposal and air quality control programs when contractually required.
Client & Stakeholder Coordination
- Serve as the primary field contact for client representatives regarding safety, quality, and construction operations.
- Communicate project impact(s) to client operations as necessary.
- Support collaborative problem-solving between field teams and Project Management.
Leadership & Team Development
- Direct and support Assistant Superintendents, Project Engineers, and field staff.
- Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and safety.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to developing field leaders.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of construction means and methods, sequencing, and schedule management.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and complex field operations simultaneously.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and construction management software (e.g., Procore, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, or client-required systems).
- Knowledge of safety regulations, reporting requirements, and compliance standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred; equivalent trade experience and training may be considered.
- Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience progressive field construction experience, including leadership of subcontractors and field teams.
- Travel: Must be able to be a full-time traveler – locations vary based on job site assignment
- Certifications: OSHA 30 required; MUST, Certified Storm Water Operator, and First Aid & CPR preferred.
- Screening Requirements: Pre-employment and annual drug testing required; background check, including driving record, as required by client.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
Working Environment and Physical Requirements
This position primarily operates on active construction jobsites and is exposed to moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, and other construction-related hazards. The role requires climbing stairs and ladders, navigating unfinished structures, and working safely around active equipment while wearing required PPE. The employee must be able to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds. Travel between project sites may be required. Compliance with all company and jobsite safety policies is mandatory. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn, and strict infection control, safety, and hospital policies must be followed.
