Position Summary
Rome Health is seeking an HIM Specialist:
Performs assigned duties during the daily course of operations for the HIM department. Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must function as part of a team and exhibit a positive, cooperative attitude at all times. Familiar with privacy and confidentiality regulations specifically surrounding release of protected health information (PHI).
Education, Training, Experience, Certification, And Licensure
High School diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred. Notary Public or eligible preferred.
Ability to type and navigate multiple computer software systems required.
Ability to use a scanner, fax machine, copier required.
Knowledge And Skills Required
Must possess critical thinking and analytical skills. Must possess excellent attention to detail as duties may involve handling or releasing patients' PHI. Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time with occasional interruptions. Must understand and always follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy and confidentiality regulations related to releasing PHI.
Special Equipment Used
Must be proficient with typing at a computer, use of a scanner, printer, fax machine, telephone.

All age groups
Work Environment And Occupational Hazards
Possibility of eye strain from prolonged use of a computer. Possibility of carpal tunnel or wrist fatigue from continual data entry. Occasional lifting of paper charts. Occasional travel to off-site storage to retrieve paper charts.
