District Director of Athletics

POSITION TITLE: District Director of Athletics 

DEPARTMENT: Operations Department

WORK DAYS: 240 @ 49%

REPORTS TO: Superintendent or Designee

JOB SUMMARY: The District Director of Athletics will carry out the district’s vision for athletics. The District’s Athletics Director will provide leadership, professional learning, coordination, and supervision for all athletics programs, which will create an environment that will enhance the school district’s environment. The District Director of Athletics will oversee the athletic budget process and the pre-approval of hiring coaches. 

• Serves on the superintendent’s cabinet, operations department, and is the point of contact for all athletics concerns. Serves at the point of contact for Health and PE teachers. Oversee the implementation process for vertically aligning Health/PE (K-12). 

• Directs the effective delivery and continuous improvement of all athletics programs 

• Develops the district’s athletic goals, non-negotiables that all coaches will follow 

• Review all coaches' recommendations with the assistant superintendent and pre-approval before submitting to the superintendent for final approval

• Review and pre-approve the district’s athletics handbook 

• Review and pre-approve the athletics budget and supplements with the assistant superintendent before submitting to the superintendent for final approval

• Oversees athletic branding, funding, and approval of uniforms 

• Develops short and long-range athletics facility use plans; establishes a clear vision for middle and high school athletics 

• Schedules meetings with building-level athletic directors and athletic coordinators to provide guidelines and communication within the athletics department 

• Prepares a monthly walk-through plan to monitor athletics facilities 

• Works collaboratively with the communication, technology, transportation, maintenance, and school nutrition departments  

• Participates as an active member of the district’s crisis management team.

• Establish a professional learning plan for head coaches. Approves all coaches' professional learning 

• Create a New Coach Induction Program for all first-year head coaches

• Create and establish a New Coaches Induction Program for all 2nd & 3rd year coaches 

• Oversee coaching supplements and Title IX 

• Make sure the district is following all GHSA guidelines-GADA 

• Oversee the recruitment & evaluation process for all head coaches. Make sure the process and procedures are properly executed

• Oversee the athletics operations of Barron Stadium 

• Other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee 

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree or Higher  
• Any additional qualifications, training, or other credentials, as determined by the Board of Education.

• Communication Skills: Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret information relevant to the position, including being able to speak effectively to small and large groups of people, and to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
• Leadership Ability: Must be able to articulate the vision and mission for the district and provide appropriate direction, guidance, and management skills to achieve them.
