Music Teacher - Substitute 2026-2027 School Year

The Rome City School District is seeking a qualified, student-centered educator to serve as a Long-Term Substitute High School Music (Orchestra) Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year to cover a leave of absence. The successful candidate will provide high-quality music instruction while maintaining a positive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment. Responsibilities include planning and delivering standards-based instruction, assessing student progress, collaborating with colleagues, communicating with families, and participating in school activities and professional responsibilities consistent with district expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging music instruction aligned with the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts.

• Foster a classroom environment that promotes student creativity, collaboration, and musical growth.

• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.

• Assess student learning and maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and progress.

• Collaborate with administrators, counselors, special education staff, and colleagues to support student success.

• Maintain effective classroom management and establish positive relationships with students.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

Qualifications:

• Valid New York State Certification in Music (or eligibility for certification).

• Strong instructional, classroom management, and communication skills.

• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

• Experience teaching at the secondary level is preferred but not required.

• Assignment Dates: September 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027 (Leave Replacement)

• Salary: In accordance with the Rome City School District Teachers' Association Agreement for long-term substitute teachers.
