The Rome City School District is seeking 2 highly qualified individuals to serve on Committee as Coordinator of Special Education (CSE). Competitive salary and benefits, commensurate with experience. Reporting to the Director of Special Education, these positions are responsible for leading and facilitating the CSE and/or Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) processes in compliance with New York State Education Law, Commissioner's Regulations, and district policies. Key responsibilities include overseeing referrals, evaluations, IEP development and implementation, and ensuring documentation and procedures meet all legal and regulatory standards. The Chairpersons will work collaboratively with school personnel, service providers, and external agencies to support student success and program compliance, while also contributing to strategic planning and data-informed decision-making. Candidates must hold a valid NYS Administrative Certification, with at least five years of experience in teaching or a related field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts business in accordance with Education Law, NYS Commissioner's Regulations and School District policy, specifically the referral, evaluation, parent notification, individualized education program (IEP) development, placement of students, and annual and re-evaluation process.

  • Chairs the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and/or the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) within appropriate guidelines including the maintenance of students, staff, and Prior Written Notice documents/meeting documentation.

  • Monitors, interprets, along with the Director, to support compliance in terms of state, county, and federal regulations.

  • Review all IEP drafts according to state and federal guidelines and direct staff for changes, updates, and corrections.

  • Implement and maintain all procedures for the operation of the CPSE and CSE including but not limited to: scheduling, developing and maintaining documentation of all meetings (Prior Written Notice, Meeting Notices, Minutes, etc.), ensuring all Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are developed and implemented appropriately incorporating Specially Designed Instruction, and facilitating CSE and CPSE meetings to ensure the committee comes to a consensus on decisions regarding special education programming and services.

  • Maintains correct procedures to ensure the Medicaid reimbursement process.

  • Collaborates with principals, teachers, related service providers, and other relevant agencies.

  • Establish and maintain regular communication with building administrators, preschool agencies, county agencies, BOCES, UCP, HoGS, special education teachers and related service providers.

  • Confer with principals in the coordination of state testing programs for CSE students.

  • Review testing needs for students with disabilities, review test score analytics, and based decisions and plans with student performance in mind.

  • Establish links with various offices and agencies beyond the school that may provide specialized help to students and parents.

  • Performs other duties and tasks as outlined by the Director of Special Education.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold valid New York State Administrative Certification as New York State School District Leader/School Building Leader.

  • Minimum of 5 years teaching/related field experience and at least 1 year of on the job administrative experience.

  • Expertise in strategic planning, decision-making, and team facilitation.

Salary starting at $75,000.00. Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
