Duties and Responsibilities
The Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi is seeking to hire a qualified Internal Auditor for the Office of Finance and Accounting. The Internal Auditor is responsible for executing the Internal Audit activity to support implementation and execution of an annual Internal Audit Plan for Diocesan entities (e.g., parishes, diocesan schools and parochial schools, etc.) Prepares and presents audit findings and recommendations, providing assurance of compliance with statutory requirements and policies and procedures. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:

- As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both your professional and personal life
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Reports on compliance with generally accepted and/or established internal control procedures, practices, and Diocesan statutes / policies by examining financial and other related records, reports, operating practices, and supporting documentation
- Verifies assets and liabilities by inspecting or comparing items to appropriate documentation
- Reviews adequacy of internal control systems by completing audit questionnaires and/or by otherwise reviewing established procedures
- Prepares reports to document audit tests and findings
- Reports and findings are reviewed by the Chief Financial Officer and Bishop and entity governing boards (e.g. Parish Financial Councils, Diocesan Finance Council)
- Assists with audits or investigations of reported or suspected irregularities
- Assists with facilitation of external audits of Diocesan entities as directed
- Develops, analyzes and interprets accounting information to evaluate operating results in terms of fiscal soundness, operating effectiveness, performance against budget and donor restrictions
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting with at least three years of accounting and auditing experience required
- At least three years of experience working with Excel and Microsoft Office applications required
- Experience in QuickBooks preferred
- A licensed CPA or candidate working towards a CPA preferred; Certified Internal Auditor may substitute
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of non-profit organizations; accounting processes and best practices
- Excellent writing skills; must be able to prepare internal audit reports and management letter points that can be easily understood by the end user
- Working knowledge of QuickBooks preferred
- Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office applications including knowledge of v-lookups, pivot tables and other mathematical functions in Excel
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
Requirements:
- Catholic in good standing preferred; must be supportive of the mission of the Roman Catholic Church
- Ability to travel to parish and school locations within the Diocese
- Ability to work with individuals with a wide range of accounting knowledge and skills
- Must be able to perform the necessary audit procedures, have supporting documentation for recommendations and conclusions, and prepare internal audit reports
Additional Requirements:
- Submit to employment required screenings including criminal background, MVR and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
- Position requires adherence to diocesan policies and procedures

Salary : $70,000 - $83,000
