Cafeteria Staff

Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic School in Corpus Christi, Texas, is hiring a Cafeteria Staff member to assist with the daily operations of the school cafeteria.

Ministerial Character:

The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him.  In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community.  In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people.  He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities.  Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Responsibilities:

• As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
• Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
• Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
• Assists with planning and preparing menus to be served daily and for special occasions
• Purchases all food and supplies to maintain adequate inventory needed for day to day operations
• Maintains inventory records of all food and supplies purchased and used.  Submits periodic inventory reports to the Principal and other required agencies
• Oversees sanitation and housekeeping procedures, including compliance with state, federal, and local health department sanitation requirements
• Ensures that cafeteria tables, chairs, equipment, floors, restrooms, etc., are properly sanitized and maintained
• Maintains safety standards throughout the cafeteria
• Maintains or improves standards of food preparation and service
• Maintains proper food safety and storage standards to prevent food spoilage
• Observes and tastes food being prepared for quality, texture, flavor, and proper temperatures
• Keeps reports of repair and maintenance of equipment
• Attends in-service and workshops as directed by the Principal
• Assists in maintaining discipline in the cafeteria where required
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal

Mental/Physical Demands:

• Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
• Ability to walk, stand, bend, reach frequently
• Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
• Must maintain confidentiality

Minimum Qualifications:

•  High School Diploma or equivalent
•  One to two years experience in an institutional type kitchen, preferably in an educational related environment preferred
• Must possess health certification based on county requirements
• Valid Texas driver's license
• Must be 21 years of age or older

Additional Requirements:

• Must successfully complete criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screening
• Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
• Must adhere to all diocesan policies and procedures
