The Director of Religious Formation is an integral member of the parish staff, who directs and runs the parish religious formation programs. S/he works closely with the staff and volunteers to foster a vibrant and dynamic faith formation program that aligns with Catholic values and teachings.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and oversee religious formation programs for children, youth and adults.
- Coordinate sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
- Recruit, train, support and oversee volunteer catechists and staff for religious education programs.
- Work closely with the pastor and staff to ensure alignment with the parish mission and vision.
- Plan and organize family faith formation opportunities, retreats and other events.
- Ensure all programs comply with diocesan policies and guidelines for religious education, and attend diocesan meetings pertaining to faith formation.
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive and spiritually nurturing environment for all participants.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- Deep understanding of the Catholic faith and a love for children and families.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious Education or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Three years prior experience in religious formation, catechesis or ministry.
- Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and parish families.
- A heart for teaching and forming disciples.
- Knowledge of current trends in faith formation and best practices in religious education.
- Demonstrates a high degree of integrity, ethical responsibility, and maintains confidentiality.
