Position Summary:
The Director of Technology at Saint Peter School is responsible for the leadership and coordination of all aspects of educational and administrative technology. This includes instructional technology integration, infrastructure and device management, cybersecurity, and support services. The role ensures that technology is effectively used to enhance teaching and learning, streamline operations, and promote digital citizenship in line with Catholic values and Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington (ADW) standards.
Core Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Develop and implement a long-range technology plan aligned with the school’s mission and the strategic goals of the Archdiocese of Washington.
- Serve as the school’s lead advisor on all technology-related matters.
- Collaborate with the principal, academic leadership, and the ADW Catholic Schools Office to ensure consistency and compliance with diocesan policies.
Instructional Technology Integration:
- Support teachers in designing and implementing curriculum-based technology projects and lessons, including training on educational platforms (e.g., Google Workspace for Education, iPads, interactive whiteboards).
- Organize and lead professional development in technology tools and integration best practices.
- Promote digital literacy, creativity, and problem-solving in the classroom
Technical Operations and Support:
- Oversee the school’s devices, infrastructure, and digital systems, including internet connectivity, hardware, printers, AV equipment, and classroom technology.
- Manage the 1:1 device program including deployment, maintenance, inventory, and repairs.
- Provide timely help-desk support to staff and students.
Systems & Data Management
- Maintain and support the school’s learning management system (e.g., Google Classroom), student information system (e.g., FACTS, PowerSchool), and communication tools.
- Coordinate with the ADW IT support team as needed.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with applicable laws (COPPA, FERPA).
Cybersecurity, Safety & Compliance
- Implement best practices in digital safety, including firewalls, filtering, backups, and user access protocols and tools (e.g., GoGuardian).
- Monitor and enforce Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) and digital citizenship programs for students and staff.
- Stay informed on cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies.
Collaboration & Communication
- Act as a liaison between the school and external vendors, consultants, and ADW technology support.
- Communicate technology updates, policies, and initiatives to faculty, staff, and families
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a K–8 or Catholic school setting.
- Familiarity with ADW policies and commitment to the values of Catholic education.
- Proficiency with educational technology platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, SmartBoards, iPads, device management software).
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a faith-based environment.
- Practicing Catholic preferred.
Working Conditions:
- School-based environment with regular interaction with students, teachers, and staff
- Must be available to address occasional off-hours emergencies, updates, or maintenance tasks
