St. Bartholomew School in Bethesda Maryland is hiring a full time Athletic Director for the 2026-27 school year.
This is a full time role and will report to the Principal.
The salary for this role is $55,000 to $65,000 plus outstanding benefits.

The Athletic Director will manage the school sports programs, ensuring they align with the mission to develop the whole child - mind, body and spirit. The Athletic Director will promote the Gospel values, sportsmanship, and physical wellness while overseeing scheduling, coach recruitment, budgets, safety compliance and facility management.
Core Responsibilities:
- Mission integration: Fosters a faith-centered athletic environment that emphasizes teamwork, integrity, discipline and respect in accordance with Catholic teachings.
- Program Management: Coordinates and Organizes relevant after-school activities and comprehensive seasonal sports programs, including team rosters, game/practice schedules and tournament planning.
- Staff Oversight: Recruits, trains, mentors, and evaluates volunteer and paid coaches.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensures the program meets all Diocesan, league and state regulations including verifying background checks, physical exams and signed waivers.
- Financial Oversight: Under the direction of the Head of School, develops the athletic budget, manages gym rentals, oversees uniform purchases, manages equipment inventory and coordinates fundraising if necessary.
- Communication: Act as primary liaison between the school, parents, student-athletes and runs the local CYO league.
- Plan and execute age-appropriate physical education lessons for students, ensuring compliance with state and archdiocesan standards.
- Teach the fundamentals of motor skills, physical fitness, individual/team sports, and health principles.
- Incorporate Gospel teachings into lessons, emphasizing virtues like perseverance, self-discipline, teamwork, and fair play.
- Support the school’s mission by encouraging an environment of mutual respect and community.
- Provide clear safety rules and supervise students actively in the gymnasium, on the field, and during recess or lunch duties.
- Maintain sports equipment and the physical education facilities to ensure they meet safety standards.
- Organize and lead school-wide physical events, such as Field Day and wellness initiatives.
Qualfications
- Bachelors Degree in Physical Education or Sports Administration
- Practicing Catholic preferred, with an understanding of Catholic School philosphy
- Previous coaching, teaching or working in sports administration
- Must successfully pass Diocesan background checks (VIRTUS) and hold current CPR/first aid certification
