Overview
The Junior Research Engineer is the entry-level technical role within Rollins Engineering Solutions. Junior Research Engineers work directly with multi-university project teams to develop foundational skills in engineering analysis, technical communication, and collaborative research. This position is designed for highly motivated students who want real project experience, mentorship, and the opportunity to progress into senior technical and leadership roles within RES.

Responsibilities
- Project Work & Technical Development
- Assist in research, modeling, design, simulation, or analysis depending on assigned project (e.g., CFD, FEA, propulsion, materials, systems engineering).
- Perform literature reviews and summarize key findings for the team.
- Develop preliminary calculations, models, or prototypes under guidance from senior engineers.
- Contribute to code development, data processing, or computational tasks as needed.
- Support the creation of project documentation, including reports, figures, and technical presentations.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Work closely with Lead Research Engineers, Project Managers, and Directors to meet cycle deliverables.
- Communicate clearly, ask questions early, and contribute to a strong team culture.
Professional Growth
- Build technical competency through mentorship and hands-on project work.
- Gain exposure to industry tools (MATLAB, Python, SolidWorks, Ansys, etc.) depending on project track.
- Prepare for progression into Lead Research Engineer roles and future leadership positions.
