Come be a part of helping students pursue their college goals ... The Office of Financial Aid at Rollins College seeks a Financial Aid Counselor to join their team!
Essential Job Functions
- Counseling, advising, and awarding students and families about financial aid eligibility.
- Reviewing and determining initial eligibility for the Florida Effective Access to Student Education grant (EASE), and/or Bright Future awards.
- Determining renewal eligibility for all federal and state aid programs in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, guidelines, and other governing criteria; reviewing and approving or denying appeals for each individual program.
- Administering $3,000,000 Pell Grant Program using The U.S. Department of Education Common Origination and Disbursement System (COD): Transmitting origination & disbursement records, processing Discrepancy Reports, researching & correcting problems on each individual student, and exporting files in FTP.
- Coordinating with other institutions on the eligibility of students with awards at both institutions, and notifying students of any Pell Grant changes.
- Managing the Federal Pell grant monthly and year-end reconciliation.
- Confirming and awarding Veteran Administration Yellow Ribbon awards.
- Standing as the representative in meeting with students and reconciliation of all VA funds.
- Identifying students that need federal refunds or financial aid cancelled due to changes in their enrollment status.
- Presenting during on campus and off campus financial aid events.
- Processing "Exit Interviews" in accordance with Federal Regulations for all students who graduate, withdraw, or fall below six credit hours.
& Education:
- One to three years customer service experience.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University or College.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and grammar.
- Knowledge and practice of organizational and time management skills.
- Proven customer service experience and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and families.
- Proficiency with personal computers and software for word processing, spreadsheet, and database management
- Ability to maintain and update files and records with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to analyze information and exercise sound judgement in determining eligibility for financial aid.
- Ability to interpret and understand complex instructions and regulations.
Work Environment:
- Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, working in an office environment.
- Regular use of a computer and databases.
- Flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, may be required on an “as needed” basis.
