What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Crew (part-time, seasonal) position at Rolling Meadows Park District?
JOB SUMMARY: The Seasonal Parks Crew is directly responsible to the Superintendent of Parks under the direct supervision of the Parks Foreman for the general upkeep of District grounds which includes the operation of equipment used for mowing, landscaping, snow removal, athletic field maintenance, and other related tasks including manual labor. This is an at-will position. Primary duties include:
- Landscape duties (mowing, tree trimming, flower, and plant maintenance, etc.) as directed.
- Park clean up and garbage removal as needed.
- Park grounds, athletic field, or facility development and maintenance as needed.
- Maintain park district vehicles and equipment as required.
- Truck, tractor, equipment operations as directed.
- Playground maintenance, repairs, and development as needed.
- Park, park facility, building, and vehicle inspections, reports, evaluations as needed.
- Help plan park operations with park foreman as needed.
- Pick up litter throughout the building, grounds, and facilities of the District.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must be at least 16 years of age and must be able to use personal protective equipment (PPE) based on job specific tasks, which may include, but is not limited to: safety goggles/glasses, earplugs/covers, work boot, protective gloves, helmets, and fall protection equipment. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with lift assistance. Must be able to work in all kinds of weather conditions. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and problem solving skills along with good judgement. Must be reliable, show initiative, possess flexibility, and open to constructive criticism. Able to communicate with patrons and co-workers and to respond tactfully to their concerns.
SCHEDULE & PAY: This is a part-time, seasonal position. Schedule includes weekdays 7am to 3:30pm with evening and weekend hours as required. Hiring rate starts at $15.55 per hour, dependent upon qualifications. Plus applicable facility and program discounts.
