Registered Dental Assistant Extended Functions II (RHC)

Position Summary

The Registered Dental Assistant Extended Functions II (RDAEF II) serves as a circulating assistant during chairside dental procedures, under the direction of the Dental Clinic Site Manager. Duties include all allowable dentistry procedures, infection control, cleaning and sterilization, tray setup, and handling of dental materials. This role may require travel between Rolling Hills Clinic sites to help cover staffing vacancies or shortages.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Perform all phases of four-handed dental assisting for endodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, prosthodontics, and restorative procedures.
• Conduct standard and radiographic methods; expose, process, and mount diagnostic radiographs.
• Demonstrate familiarity with dental terminology, materials, medications, and instruments.
• Clean and sterilize dental instruments and set up trays to ensure efficient patient flow.
• Maintain and test dental equipment, including sterilizers and x-ray processors.
• Effectively pour models and conduct laboratory procedures.
• Instruct patients in oral hygiene and preventive dental education under dentist supervision.
• Manage inventory, document usage, and reorder supplies as needed.
• Perform charting activities and document exam findings in the patient record.
• Maintain clean and well-stocked operatories and laboratories.
• Plan work to ensure dental clinic efficiency and knowledge of scheduling procedures.
• Collaborate with staff dentists and the dental team to support preventive dental activities for the community.
• Adhere to employee and patient safety protocols and ergonomic safety standards.
• Take corrective actions related to employee health and safety as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• California license as a Registered Dental Assistant.
• Five (5) years of experience as a Registered Dental Assistant.

Preferred Education & Experience

• Five (5) years of experience in a clinic environment.
• Bilingual.

Licenses/Certificates

• Radiation Safety Certification or completion of an approved course
• Coronal polishing license and Sealant certified
• Valid BLS Certification
• Valid California Driver’s License

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Pre-employment drug testing.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance through Federal, State, and Child Abuse Index.

Working Environment & Physical Demands

Working Environment: Work is performed in a health clinic setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Will work with blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Position may require exertion up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Background Check Requirements:

Pre-employment Drug Testing and a Department of Justice Fingerprinting clearance through Federal, State and Child Abuse Index is a contingency for an offer of employment. Criminal clearances are obtained to protect the welfare and safety of clients receiving services at Rolling Hills Clinic.

Vaccination Requirements:

Provide vaccination records to show proof of immunity for TB, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, TDAP & Hep B. If the records are more than 10 years old, titers are required to confirm immunity.
