Job Summary:
Apex Waste Solutions is seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight. The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of hauling site operations. This includes leadership of daily hauling activities, fleet management, safety compliance, operational efficiency, and team development. The role requires a results-driven leader who can balance customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and profitability while ensuring regulatory and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate excels at leading through others, driving cross-functional collaboration, and representing the company with integrity and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations Management
- Direct and manage daily hauling operations, ensuring routes are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Oversee the maintenance and utilization of the vehicle fleet, equipment, and facilities.
- Monitor KPIs for safety, productivity, route efficiency, and cost control.
- Coordinate with dispatch, maintenance, and customer service teams to ensure operational continuity.
- Lead initiatives to improve workflow efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Leadership & Personnel Development
- Recruit, train, and manage drivers, supervisors, and support staff.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
- Conduct performance evaluations and implement coaching or corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies.
Financial & Business Management
- Develop and manage annual budgets for the hauling operation.
- Analyze financial performance and implement strategies to meet or exceed budgetary goals.
- Oversee billing accuracy, vendor relationships, and operational procurement.
- Identify opportunities to grow hauling services and improve profitability.
Customer Service & Community Relations
- Partner with sales and customer service teams to address customer needs, resolve issues, and support business growth.
- Ensure timely response to customer inquiries and service requests.
- Represent the company in the local community, maintaining strong relationships with municipalities, clients, and regulatory agencies.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture and enforce safety programs and policies.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to waste hauling operations.
- Investigate incidents, implement corrective measures, and lead safety meetings.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Environmental Science, or related field (preferred).
- 7 years of progressive leadership experience in waste management, transportation, or logistics operations.
- Proven experience managing P&L and operational budgets.
- Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in route optimization, dispatch systems, and fleet management software.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, sustainability, and community engagement.
- Able to inspire trust, rally teams around goals, and drive organizational change.
- Adept at streamlining processes and deploying resources effectively.
- Skilled in relationship-building with civic leaders and residents.

Working Conditions:
- Work Environment: This role is based in both office and field settings.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally lift up to 50lbs; may involve walking over uneven terrain, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods during site inspections.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday with occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required to support operations or attend community events and meetings.
- PPE Requirements: Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when on-site, in accordance with company safety policies.
