Job Title: Area Safety Manager

Location: Parker, Colorado

Job Type:  Full-Time

Reports To: Vice President of Operations
Travel: Required across assigned territories

Pay: $95,000 - $100,000 Yearly Salary Bonus

 

Job Summary

The Area Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety regulations, policies, and processes across multiple territories within the waste management industry. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while fostering a culture of safety among all employees. The Safety Manager will work closely with operational teams, conduct audits, provide training, and implement risk-reduction strategies to maintain a safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Conduct regular site safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across multiple locations.
  • Investigate accidents, near-misses, and incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor 3rd Eye camera footage to assess safety compliance, provide coaching, and enhance driver safety awareness.
  • Assist in ensuring all sites comply with safety standards and provide coaching and mentoring to improve safety culture and performance.
  • Train and educate employees on safety protocols, proper equipment usage, and emergency response procedures.
  • Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety training sessions for employees at all levels.
  • Monitor and track safety metrics, providing reports and recommendations to senior management.
  • Ensure proper handling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop emergency response plans and oversee safety drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Collaborate with operations, HR, and management teams to promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and facilitate return-to-work programs.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes, implementing necessary updates to safety policies.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).
  • 3 years of safety management experience, preferably in the waste management, transportation, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, and waste industry-specific safety regulations.
  • Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence a safety-first culture.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to travel across assigned territories as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
  • Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Regular travel to various locations and field sites is required.
  • Work is performed in a combination of office, field, and operational settings.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements such as heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.
  • Frequent visits to industrial and waste management facilities, which may involve exposure to dust, noise, odors, and hazardous materials.
  • May be required to wear PPE, including safety boots, gloves, hard hats, reflective vests, and respiratory protection as necessary.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods while conducting site inspections.
  • May be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal working hours.
