Job Title: Reamer Lead Operator

Location: Rolite Mfg., Inc. – 10 Wendling Ct. Lancaster, NY 14086
Reports to: Floor Manager

Shift: Monday-Thursday 6:00am – 4:30pm

Position Summary:

The Reamer Lead Operator supervises and coordinates the automated reaming line producing finished tubes. Responsibilities include machine setup and operation, quality verification (straightness, length, internal dimensions), packaging, training operators, supporting saw changeovers, and ensuring proper startup/shutdown and maintenance practices to meet production, quality, and safety targets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Load tubes into the magazines of two automated reaming machines and oversee continuous, safe operation.
• Perform visual and dimensional inspections of finished parts; verify straightness, length, and internal dimensions using appropriate measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, go/no-go gauges, etc.).
• Package finished parts per packing instructions and maintain finished-part traceability and documentation.
• Train and mentor new and existing reamer operators on machine operation, material handling, packaging, job reporting, quality expectations, and safety procedures.
• Assist the Floor Manager in planning saw changeovers for individual tube lengths and coordinate timing/staging with Production and Materials.
• Ensure proper startup and shutdown procedures, including machine cleaning, coolant tank maintenance (viscosity levels), scrap segregation/relegation, and routine preventive tasks.
• Troubleshoot common machine/process issues and coordinate escalations to Maintenance when required.
• Conduct pre-shift briefings and hold weekly meetings with the Floor Manager to review the week’s production plan and ensure completion.
• Enforce lockout/tagout, PPE, and all machine-specific safety protocols.
• As well as other duties relating to manufacturing as delegated by the Floor Manager.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or manufacturing experience preferred.
• 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment; prior lead or training experience preferred.
• Proficient with dimensional inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, go/no-go gauges) and strong attention to surface and dimensional quality.
• Ability to read basic work instructions and job routings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, and clear communication skills.
• Basic computer skills for production and quality data entry.

Physical Requirements & Environment:

• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift/move up to 50 lbs, perform repetitive tasks, and access machine enclosures.
• Work in a manufacturing environment with noise, metal particulates, coolant, and moving equipment; appropriate PPE required.

Performance Metrics:

• On-time completion of production plans, inspection pass rate, scrap/rework rates, machine uptime, and operator training effectiveness.
