Rogue Valley Humane Society is looking for a part-time, reliable Veterinary Assistant to join our surgical team! Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Organizing surgical pack prep station
- Cleaning and maintaining instruments and equipment.
- Cleaning and packing of surgical instruments using proper sterilization.
- Ensure sterilization/processing equipment is monitored for proper functioning and required documentation records are maintained.
- Maintains an adequate supply of sterile packs and supplies to meet area needs.
- Gather, wash, dry, fold laundry, surgical drapes and gowns and store away.
- Stock surgery suites, treatment area, kennel and surgical pack prep station rooms.
- Processes specialty and general instruments and communicates instrument repair needs to supervisor.
- Set up and break down kennel room, treatment stations, recovery area and surgery room.
- Restraint of animals for pre-surgical exams and procedures, blood draws, outpatient procedures, and catheter placements.
- Fill prescriptions and dispense medications
- Walk patients as needed.
- Preparing patient paperwork.
- Assist with patient monitoring and recovery.
- Prompt and accurate data entry of patient appointments and charges into the ClinicHQ management system
- Assist the medical team with special medical cases that may involve intensive monitoring and/or extended hours
Requirements:
- 1 years experience in a veterinary setting working as a veterinary assistant
- 1 years of experience with monitoring patients under general anesthesia
- 1 years of experience with autoclaving surgical packs
- Knowledge of and ability to perform basic veterinary technician duties including, but not limited to: IV catheter insertion and maintenance, intubation, blood draws, urinalysis, fecal tests, etc.
- Familiar with medical equipment use and basic maintenance and repair
- Strong desire to work in an animal shelter setting
- Detail oriented and well organized

- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Competent computer skills including reliable and consistent ability to enter data, as well as effective working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) and Google Suite
- Must have a valid Oregon Driver's License for transport of animals in RVHS van
- Ability to walk, stand for long periods of time and navigate going up and down stairs
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently
Additional Job Information
- This position will provide 8-10 hours per day worked on average. As of 11/20/25, we have a 4 day shift, a 2 day shift and a 1 day shift we are looking to fill.
- Our surgery clinic positions are regularly scheduled Monday through Thursday and while this job does not involve working weekends on a regular basis, it may include some on call work on the weekends as needed.
- This position will mainly deal with our surgical department, but some cross training with our feline/canine departments will be provided once established in the position to allow for better understanding/communication amongst departments
