POSITION SUMMARY:
Rogers State University is accepting applications for The Academic Advisor position provides academic advising, support, and outreach to undergraduate students at Rogers State University. Duties include advising students about class information, university policies and procedures, and academic requirements. This position also assists with retention and student success initiatives implemented by the Office of Student Success.
PRIMARY DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain knowledge of Rogers State University majors, campus resources, information systems, and policies and procedures.
- Proactively advise students on topics such as the advising and the enrollment process, major options, and requirements, navigating their my RSU portal.
- Make appropriate referrals to campus resources.
- Develop relationships with students centered around their holistic development.
- Maintain accurate and detailed advising notes through the online system and track advisees' performance at the end of each semester.
- Assist in the retention and student success efforts of the Office of Student Success.
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with academic departments, student affairs offices, student groups, and other university resources.
- Serve as a liaison between assigned departments and the Office of Student Success.
- Evaluates transfer transcripts from other academic institutions for equivalencies.
- Perform any other duties as directed by the Director of Student Success.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Must be organized and detail oriented.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport quickly with students, faculty, and staff.
- Must be able and willing to work independently as needed but employ a team mindset and positive attitude.
- Strong personal computer skills and the ability to learn modern technology are required.
- Must be enthusiastic, professional, and a good ambassador for the University
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Genuine desire and ability to work with and relate to college students • Bachelor's degree required. • One to three years of professional work experience in a related field is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience specifically in higher education, university admissions, and Jenzabar Software Suite preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment and involves sitting and standing for extended periods of time, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting objects up to 35 pounds
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Success
HOURS: Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00, Evenings and weekends as necessary
POSITION: Professional Employee Designation/ FLSA Exempt
