The Skilled Laborer – Asphalt Crew performs a variety of manual labor and equipment-related tasks associated with asphalt paving, patching, grading, and roadway construction projects. This position works closely with crew members and equipment operators to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality asphalt operations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist with asphalt paving, patching, and repair operations.
- Perform handwork including raking, shoveling, lute work, and rolling edges.
- Assist in preparing job sites by cleaning, grading, and setting up traffic control devices.
- Operate small tools and equipment such as plate compactors, saws, blowers, and hand tools.
- Check and maintain proper asphalt mat appearance, thickness, and quality.
- Assist equipment operators with daily production activities.
- Load and unload materials, tools, and supplies.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Previous experience in asphalt paving, road construction, or heavy civil construction preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, bending, and working in hot conditions.
- Knowledge of asphalt paving practices and construction safety procedures preferred.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow directions from supervisors.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance required.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Outdoor construction environment.
- Exposure to heat, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, and repetitive physical activity.
- Overtime, night work, and weekend work may be required based on project needs.
