Job Title: Chadwick Village Substitute Teacher

Type of position/FLSA: Casual Part-time Seasonal Non-exempt hourly
POSITION SUMMARY
- Teach classes as assigned
- Teach using student-centered, experiential, and differentiated methods, in line with Village school philosophies
- Work individually with students as needed during the school day
- Work in tandem with a team of Chadwick teachers to provide a rich learning atmosphere in conjunction with Chadwick’s mission.
- Seeking a teacher with experience in early childhood development, able to take initiative, ability to interact with children as well as adults.
- Ideal candidate will instill a joy of learning in our students and loves working with children.
- Supervision and ensuring student safety are key components to the position.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate promptly and professionally with students, and colleagues
- Embody and advocate the mission, vision, and strategic direction of Chadwick School
- Create and sustain a positive school culture of high academic and behavioral expectations
- Implement an inquiry-based curriculum to meet or exceed academic standards
- Assume responsibility for the academic progress of students
- Actively work to ensure all students’ needs are met
- Maintain strong, professional relationships with colleagues in an environment where listening, critical thought, respectful debate, and compromise is welcomed and essential
- Develops student understanding and appreciation of our Core Values
- Adapts curriculum to the needs of the students with varying intellectual abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment.
- Instructs students in proper care and use of materials and organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, to prevent loss or abuse
- Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students
- Be on campus from 7:45 am until 3:45 pm on days when school is in session – 4 hours up to 8 hours as needed
- Supervise students as assigned, including chaperoning, lunchtime supervision, recess duty, arrival and dismissal duties, and other responsibilities as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
- Minimum educational requirement - bachelor’s degree
- 5 years of teaching experience preferred
- Deep and broad knowledge of the subjects and grade levels to be taught
- Strong knowledge of pedagogy and educational tools, including relevant technology
- Student-centered, global, and innovative approach to teaching
- Strong teaching experience with diverse age levels and abilities
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English
- Experience teaching in an independent school setting preferred
Compensation - $24.00
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
- Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School.
- Occasionally required to use hand to handle or feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.
- May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.
- May be required to sit while operating word processing equipment for up to 2-3 hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
