Type of position/FLSA: Part-Time (up to 20 hours a week)

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Chadwick School seeks a creative, energizing, and student-centered media professional to lead and grow a dynamic student publications and media program across the Upper School. This role is rooted in co-curricular programming that meets in the afternoon (generally 12:00-4:00), Monday through Friday. It offers a unique opportunity to build a vibrant, student-driven media and journalism ecosystem.

The teacher will oversee established student publications, including the Upper School newspaper, while thoughtfully expanding offerings in areas such as podcasting, digital storytelling, and sports broadcasting. With an eye toward innovation and sustainability, this role will shape programming that reflects the evolving landscape of journalism and media.

The ideal candidate brings relevant media experience, a passion for mentoring young people, and a clear vision for cultivating student voice and leadership. They will design authentic, hands-on learning experiences that empower students to explore storytelling across platforms, develop professional skills, and engage meaningfully with real-world audiences.

Above all, this educator will foster an inclusive, collaborative environment where students take ownership of their work, think critically and creatively, and grow as confident communicators ready to share their perspectives with a broader community.

 

ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage Upper School student newspaper and yearbook programs, ensuring consistent publication schedules, high editorial standards, and meaningful student engagement.
  • Design, develop, and sustain innovative co-curricular offerings in modern media, including (but not limited to) podcasting, digital storytelling, and sports broadcasting.
  • Mentor students in core journalistic and media production skills, including interviewing, reporting, writing, editing, fact-checking, ethical decision-making, and multimedia storytelling.
  • Cultivate student leadership by developing editorial boards and production teams, empowering students to take ownership of content creation and program direction in ways that reflect real-world media environments.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment that welcomes students of all experience levels and encourages growth, creativity, and confidence.
  • Partner with faculty, coaches, and administrators to identify and elevate compelling stories, helping integrate student media into the broader life and culture of the school.
  • Utilize and teach current media tools and technologies, including audio and video production software, publishing platforms, and Google Workspace, to support high-quality student work.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Office to ensure alignment with school branding and messaging, while preserving authentic student voice.
  • Communicate clearly, promptly, and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Adhere to all policies and expectations outlined in the Employee Handbook and relevant divisional handbooks.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned in support of the school’s mission and programmatic needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES, AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred fields include journalism, communications, media studies, English, or a related discipline.
  • Professional experience in journalism, broadcasting, podcasting, digital media production, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated passion for working with young people and a commitment to developing student voice, confidence, and skills.
  • Proven ability (or strong potential) to design, launch, and sustain programs or initiatives.
  • Familiarity with contemporary media tools and platforms, including audio/video editing software, content management systems, and digital publishing tools.
  • A collaborative, flexible, and student-centered mindset, with a willingness to innovate and adapt in a dynamic school environment.

Compensation - $40.00 - $48.00 – Based on qualifications and experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

 

  • Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School.
  • Occasionally required to use hand to feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.
  • May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.
  • Required to sit while operating word processing equipment for approximately several hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
