Position Summary
The Group Leader, Process Engineering, provides technical leadership and decision-making for staff within the process engineering department. The position will be responsible for the work output for Process Chemical Engineering work on EPFC (Engineer, Procure, Fabricate, Construct) projects in all industries, including Renewable Energy, Traditional Energy, Consumer Products, and others.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain extensive knowledge of industry standards and applicable codes (ANSI, ASME, PIP, API, NFPA, etc.) and assess designs for compliance.
- Provide leadership in the development of process engineering documents and project decisions.
- Provide technical guidance to staff from Engineer I through Senior Engineer.
- Provide input to specifications for process equipment and instrumentation, including materials of construction, temperature/pressure ratings, and other process details.
- Execute, evaluate, and QC review process simulations in ProMax and Pipeflow.
- Create and QC review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and material balances.
- Create and QC review P&IDs, including line sizing, materials of construction, heat trace, and insulation requirements.
- Supervise creation of process operational descriptions, including operational, alarm, and functional details.
- Conduct technical evaluations of OEM equipment bids such as pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, and process vessels.
- Participate in and lead HAZOP and PHA reviews.
- Support technical needs while establishing permitting requirements.
- Understand and define project emissions requirements and control technology.
- Collaborate with estimating to create and execute project estimates during all FEL stages.
- Maintain process engineering resource loading planning.
- Visit internal and external fabrication locations for shop inspections and FATs.
- Conduct performance reviews for assigned staff.
- Conduct all activities in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with company requirements.
- Promote a positive working environment to achieve organizational goals
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 15–20% per year.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere. Short-term exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures is possible. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear personal protective equipment in designated areas.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee must be able to walk, stand, use hands/fingers, grip, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. regularly is required.

SKILL / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineering (PE) registration.
- Minimum 20 years of process engineering experience.
- Process simulation experience.
- Strong process knowledge of PFDs and P&IDs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Strong process, mechanical, and electrical aptitude with hands-on experience
- Effective time management, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
