Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Diesel Technician / Wrecker Driver to join our team. This dual-role position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on commercial trucks, trailers, and equipment while also providing roadside assistance, recovery, and towing services when required. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to respond professionally in emergency situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Diesel Technician Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and services on commercial vehicles and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, brakes, suspension systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and driveline components.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electronic vehicle issues using diagnostic equipment.
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records accurately.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist with fleet maintenance planning and equipment readiness.
Wrecker Driver Responsibilities
- Respond to roadside breakdowns, accidents, and recovery calls.
- Safely operate light, medium, and heavy-duty wreckers and recovery equipment.
- Perform vehicle towing, winching, load shifts, and accident recovery operations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Secure vehicles and equipment according to company and DOT requirements.
- Communicate professionally with customers, law enforcement, dispatchers, and drivers.
- Complete towing and recovery documentation accurately and timely.
- Participate in on-call rotation for emergency response.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical training in diesel mechanics preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of diesel repair experience preferred.
- Valid CDL Class A license with acceptable driving record.
- Towing and recovery experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills for maintenance and dispatch systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and working in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and emergency call-outs as needed.
Preferred Certifications
- ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications
- Towing & Recovery Association Certifications
- DOT Inspection Certification
- CDL with air brake endorsement
