Job Summary and Purpose
The Daily Building Substitute implements an instructional program as set forth by the classroom teacher. The Daily Building Substitute is responsible for adhering to the duties and responsibilities of a teacher or other specified staff member as outlined in the Stafford County School Board Policies and Regulations.
Work Objectives/Essential Functions
Provide classroom support
- Perform all the duties and responsibilities of the regular teacher staff unless released from such duties by the principal or designee completing a full teaching day according to the hours for the specific school level and provide a summary of the day’s activities for the classroom teacher.
- Maintain an organized program of instruction based on the lesson plans provided by the teacher and communicate the lesson objective and its importance to students, preserve the regular routine of the classroom and implement fair and consistent methods for managing student behavior.
- Utilize a variety of appropriate teaching techniques, materials and resources for instructional purposes in class and out of class to adapt and adjust instructional presentation of subject content to students’ needs and interests.
- Develop a resource of materials appropriate to a variety of academic levels, which may be used to augment the teacher's prepared lesson plans as necessary.
- Assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment, and facilities to maintain a neat, safe environment for students in the absence of the teacher and leave the room and materials in a neat and orderly manner.
- Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students to demonstrate enthusiasm for learning.
- Demonstrate interest in the students and the planned instructional activities while encouraging self-direction and self-motivation in students.
Education and Experience

- School and School Board policies and regulations and guidelines provided in the Substitute Teacher's Onboarding, Orientation, and additional required trainings.
