Assistant Store Manager – Apparel and Footwear

Position Summary

Rodgers Ski & Sport is seeking a customer-focused Assistant Store Manager to support the daily operations of our Soft Goods department. This role assists with apparel, footwear, accessories, merchandising, inventory management, and staff development while helping deliver the exceptional customer experience our customers expect.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and passionate about specialty retail. Working closely with the Store Manager and other department managers. This position helps ensure the Soft Goods department is well-stocked, visually appealing, and operating efficiently. This individual will also spend significant time on the sales floor, providing expert customer service and supporting the overall success of the store.

Customer Service

• Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers in selecting apparel, footwear, helmets, goggles, gloves, accessories, and related products.
• Build lasting customer relationships through knowledgeable recommendations and personalized service.
• Assist with customer concerns and help resolve issues promptly and professionally.
• Promote Rodgers Ski & Sport's commitment to outstanding customer experiences.

Department Support

• Assist the Store Manager with the daily operation of the Soft Goods department.
• Help ensure the sales floor is clean, organized, fully stocked, and customer-ready.
• Support seasonal initiatives, promotions, and departmental priorities.
• Collaborate with other departments to provide a seamless customer experience.
• Assist in maintaining high merchandising and presentation standards throughout the department.

Merchandising

• Maintain attractive product displays that reflect Rodgers Ski & Sport merchandising standards.
• Replenish merchandise throughout the day.
• Assist with seasonal floor sets, promotional displays, and product transitions.
• Ensure merchandise is properly signed, displayed, and organized.

Inventory & Operations

• Receive, process, and stock incoming merchandise.
• Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and inventory accuracy.
• Monitor stock levels and communicate replenishment needs.
• Maintain an organized stockroom and backstock area.
• Support store opening and closing procedures as assigned.
• Assist with cash handling and register operations while following company policies and procedures.

Store Leadership

• Support the Store Manager in the day-to-day operation of the store.
• Serve as the manager on duty when the Store Manager is unavailable, ensuring the store operates efficiently and professionally.
• Provide direction and support to sales associates throughout the day.
• Help prioritize daily tasks and maintain productivity across the sales floor.
• Assist in resolving customer concerns and operational issues.
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for customers and employees.
• Support store-wide sales goals and operational initiatives beyond the Soft Goods department.

Team Support

• Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
• Share product knowledge and selling techniques with fellow employees.
• Help foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
• Provide coaching and day-to-day guidance to staff while supporting company policies and service standards.
• Support store leadership in achieving sales, service, and operational goals.

QualificationsRequired

• 2 years of retail experience, preferably in apparel, footwear, outdoor, sporting goods, or specialty retail.
• Previous supervisory, key-holder, or retail leadership experience.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Basic computer and point-of-sale system proficiency.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Preferred

• Experience in ski, snowboard, cycling, or outdoor retail.
• Knowledge of technical apparel, footwear, and outdoor equipment.
• Experience with visual merchandising and inventory management.
• Experience coaching and developing retail associates.
