Position: Educational Coordinator - Part Time / Hourly - Up to 30 Hours a Week
Job Overview:
The Educational Coordinator plays a pivotal role at the Rocky Mount State Historic Site, focusing on the development and execution of educational programs, coordination with schools, and management of educational events. This individual collaborates closely with the Executive Director, staff, volunteers, and teachers to ensure top-tier educational experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Educational Program Development & Management:
- Design, develop, and implement educational programs tailored to various age groups and audiences.
- Collaborate with schools to ensure programs align with curriculum standards and educational goals.
- Plan, organize, and oversee educational activities, ensuring they are engaging, informative, and run smoothly.
Living-History Staff Management:.
- Develop daily & seasonal tours, emphasizing key talking points that spotlight the site's historical significance.
- Ensure living-history staff have essential resources, including costumes, props, and other materials.
- Conduct training sessions for staff to guarantee consistent and accurate historical interpretations.
- Oversee and Develop the Interpreters' manual, ensuring its relevance and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Preferred minimum of a Bachelor's degree in History, Education, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in an educational role, with museum experience being a plus.
- Strong understanding of US History, Tennessee, and local history.
- Proficiency in technology, public speaking, and curriculum development.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to motivate and inspire staff.
Schedule and Event Commitments:
Regular Hours:
- Mon-Fri: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (6-hour workday, 30-minute lunch at 12:00 PM).
Special Events:
Availability required for weekend(Saturday and Sunday) events like Woolly Days and Harvest Festival. Evening availability (6:00 PM - 11:00 PM) is needed for two-week spans during Haunting on the Mount(October) and Candle Light Christmas(December) events. Flexibility to adjust schedule for special events is essential. On regular days without school groups, other duties will be assigned.
