Job Summary

The Paint Line Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing daily paint and finishing operations within a woodworking manufacturing environment. This position ensures that wood components and finished products are coated according to established quality standards, production schedules, safety requirements, and customer specifications.

The Paint Line Supervisor provides hands-on leadership to paint-line employees, coordinates workflow, monitors finish quality, minimizes rework and material waste, and works closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments to maintain an efficient and reliable finishing operation.

Duties

  • Supervise daily paint-line and finishing operations to meet production, quality, and delivery goals.
  • Coordinate staffing, work assignments, line setup, changeovers, and production priorities. Monitor paint-line speed, application consistency, drying/curing conditions, and overall workflow.
  • Ensure proper preparation of wood surfaces prior to finishing, including sanding, cleaning, filling, sealing, and inspection as required.
  • Oversee the application of stains, sealers, primers, paints, topcoats, clear coats, and other wood finishing materials.
  • Verify correct coatings, colors, formulas, and application methods are used according to work orders and product specifications.
  • Monitor coating usage and work to reduce overspray, waste, defects, and unnecessary material consumption.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and implement improvements to increase throughput and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or manufacturing-related education preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in industrial painting, wood finishing, or a related manufacturing finishing operation preferred.
  • Previous strongly preferred.
  • Experience with wood products such as cabinets, furniture, millwork, doors, mouldings, panels, or similar products preferred.
  • Working knowledge of industrial coatings and wood-finishing processes.
  • Ability to recognize and troubleshoot common paint and finishing defects. Experience with spray equipment, paint pumps, spray booths, conveyors, and related finishing equipment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of production scheduling, quality control, and principles.
  • Ability to read production orders, specifications, formulas, and work instructions.
  • Basic computer and production-reporting skills. Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and adjust priorities as production needs change.

The ideal Paint Line Supervisor is a hands-on manufacturing leader who understands both the technical and people sides of a finishing operation. This individual takes ownership of safety, quality, productivity, and employee performance and is comfortable working directly on the production floor to identify problems and implement solutions.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
