Rockwood Eyecare is a private, full-scope optometric practice. Our mission is to provide the highest quality eye care to our community and their families.
We specialize in neuro-optometry and complete medical based treatment as well as servicing patient's routine care. We are seeking an enthusiastic, service oriented, goal focused optometric assistant who can provide excellent customer service and is motivated to build long term relationships with patients.
An optometric assistant level III is trained to provide preliminary entry level testing including auto-refraction, fundus photography, visual acuity, and intraocular pressure measurement. They are also trained in optical skills including optical measurements, fitting and styling of glasses, as well as dispenses, adjustments, and repair of glasses. Furthermore, they are responsible for the administration of insurance benefits and applying them to the optical purchase experience.

We provide a flexible work schedule and do not require Saturdays as a condition of our position
Compensation is dependent on experience and skills in the eye care field.
Responsibilities – compensation increases based on skills developed through employment
- Assist optometrists during patient examinations by preparing instruments and ensuring a sterile environment.
- Conduct preliminary tests and screenings, including visual acuity tests and eye pressure measurements.
- Provide patients with information about eye health, corrective lenses, and treatment options.
- Manage patient records, including scheduling appointments and maintaining accurate medical documentation.
- Handle retail sales of eyewear products, including frames and lenses, while providing excellent customer service.
- Process medical billing and insurance claims accurately to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to aseptic techniques in all procedures.
- Stay informed about the latest developments in optometry and ophthalmology to provide knowledgeable assistance.
- Manage insurance benefits and apply insurance benefits to eyewear purchases
- Apply explanation of benefits to patient ledgers, transfer patient balances where applicable
- File insurance for routine vision claims and medical claims
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and staff
- Basic computer literacy with experience using Microsoft Office software
- Passion for learning new skills and an emphasis on professional development
