The Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day activities of our Harrisonburg feed hauling operations. This includes making sure all customer loads are picked up and delivered on time. The Operations Manager is responsible for adequate staffing at the location and ensuring all equipment is properly maintained.
Responsibilities
- Ensure operations are fully functional and running efficiently and effectively
- Coordinates and communicates with appropriate customer locations to create/update schedules for product pick-up and delivery times based on customer demand
- Relay all customer needs and concerns to management
- Complete pick-up and delivery schedules for production and equipment moves
- Ensure payroll is accurate, complete, and submitted on time
- Perform driver observations with follow up coaching (both positive and negative)
- Coordinate with management on Worker’s Comp injuries to include 1st report of injury, restricted duty work, and return to duty protocol
- Work with Safety team to investigate accidents for root cause, analysis, and corrective action
- Conduct Quarterly Safety meetings
- Inform drivers of random drug testing and ensure proper documents/authorizations
- Conduct equipment checks weekly to ensure utilization, compliance, and driver safety
- Coordinate with shop for repair and scheduled maintenance of equipment
- Ensure all company equipment is tracked and used in a manner for maximum utilization, efficiency, and cost effectiveness
- Ensure all employees are properly trained and understand each job assignment
- Ensure all employees adhere to company policies and DOT regulations
- Assist in company benefit program to include eligibility, enrollment, and claims
- Manage after hours calls when necessary
- Responsible for personnel decisions related to hiring, performance, and disciplinary actions for direct reports.
Requirements
- Proven experience in operations management or a similar role with a focus on process optimization.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and foster collaboration.
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills to liaise confidently with team members, vendors, and senior management.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in using operational software tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
Education/Experience
- Class A CDL a plus
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Bilingual a plus
- Knowledge of animal welfare and health
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
