School Nurse

The Rockport Public School District serves approximately 650 PreK-12th grade students on a two-building campus located in the picturesque coastal community of Rockport, MA which is 40 miles northeast of Boston at the tip of Cape Ann. In partnership with families and the community, the Rockport Public Schools provide a safe environment that fosters integrity, respect, and success. Students learn 21st century skills in order to fully participate in a diverse and ever-changing world. The school nurse will be responsible for providing quality primary health and emergency care to students in compliance with district policies, professional standards of practice, physician orders, and Individual Health Plans. The school nurse will also promote wellness and safety, and will serve as a resource for health concerns in the school setting. RESPONSIBILITIES (additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed): 1. Administer medications and treatments/procedures as ordered. 2. Provide nursing care for student illnesses, chronic conditions, and any acute injuries. 3. Administer nursing care based on individual health care plans. 4. Serve as liaison between the home and school personnel regarding student health concerns. 5. Assist in conducting state mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and health screenings. 5. Identify abnormal health findings and initiate referral to parents, school personnel, and/or community health resources for follow up. 6. Document all student health encounters and nursing interventions in the Electronic Health Record (SNAP). 7. Follow communicable disease control procedures and inform parents regarding school exclusion and readmission. 8. Maintain confidentiality of all student records in accordance with FERPA/HIPAA regulations.
