Fixture, Gauge, and Die Maker

Rocknel Fastener Inc
Rockford, IL Full Time
POSTED ON 7/27/2026

Craft the tools that power production

Imagine a production line waiting on a custom form tool you just ground to spec. You study the print, check every dimension with micrometers and calipers, and deliver a flawless tool that keeps the line humming. That blend of problem‑solving and hands‑on precision is exactly what this role offers—building and repairing jigs, fixtures, dies, cutting tools, machine tools, and gauges. In a dynamic job‑shop setting, you may shift between toolmaking and production machining based on demand.

Core responsibilities

  • Create or modify tooling directly from part drawings; verify all critical dimensions.
  • Set up and operate toolroom machines and lathes to produce form tools, taps, drills, and holders; complete required grinding.
  • Sharpen and condition tools; ensure toolholders are service‑ready before returning them to drawers or shelves.
  • Maintain toolroom control: check tooling in/out and repair or request replacements for parts, tooling, and hardware to sustain stock.
  • Prepare setup kits for any machine to streamline changeovers.
  • Adjust machine components to control speeds, pressures, temperatures, amounts, dimensions, and flow of materials.

Qualifications and strengths

  • Preferred: heading experience in the fastener industry.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 practices.
  • Effective communicator—phone, written, email, and in‑person—with the ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
  • Plan and organize work to completion; shift quickly between tasks while minimizing errors or omissions.
  • Strong deductive reasoning—apply general rules to solve specific technical issues.
  • Ability to adjust machine settings as needed and perform basic maintenance on heading equipment.
  • Blueprint literacy and proficiency with calipers and micrometers.
  • Adherence to OSHA and company safety requirements.

Work setting

Collaborative, toolroom‑centric role based entirely onsite at one location.
