Rockmore International is a well-established manufacturing facility based in Wilsonville, Oregon supplying mining tools for the global mining an drilling markets. We are looking for a qualified Production Planner to organize production according to demand and quality standards.
This is a hands-on dual role where the primary responsibility is production planning for a set of machines which will require the utilization of MRP & ERP systems effectively. The secondary role includes managing an MRO system (tooling inventory system for CNC tooling).
PRIMARY DUTIES – Production Planning
- Plan and schedule jobs for a cell of machines.
- Sequence work based on due dates, material availability, tooling readiness, machine capacity, and priorities.
- Release work orders/job travelers to the cell.
- Monitor job progress and adjust the schedule for delays, breakdowns, rush orders, or tooling constraints.
- Coordinate closely between purchasing/tooling and the machine cell so materials and tools arrive in time for planned work.
- Communicate schedule status and any risks to the shop supervisor.
SECONDARY DUTIES – Purchasing & Tooling Management
- Purchase steel products (plate, bar, tube, structural, sheet, etc.) to meet production requirements and specifications.
- Handle recycling-related purchasing and coordination (scrap, containers, related services).
- Buy miscellaneous shop items and consumables. Act as the MRO buyer: source and purchase maintenance, repair, and operating supplies (spare parts, lubricants, filters, safety supplies, facility items, etc.).
- Obtain quotes, negotiate pricing and delivery, place purchase orders, and follow up on open orders.
- Resolve delivery, quality, or pricing issues with suppliers.
- Maintain awareness of inventory levels for frequently used steel, shop supplies, and MRO items to prevent shortages.
- CNC Tooling Management
- Demonstrate solid understanding of CNC tooling (end mills, inserts, drills, holders, collets, etc.).
- Manage the full tooling lifecycle: ordering, receiving, issuing, tracking usage, and reordering.
- Own and maintain the tooling inventory system (software or manual) — keep accurate counts, locations, and min/max levels.
- Work with machinists and the machine cell to ensure the right tooling is available when needed.
- Ability to create and adjust simple production schedules for a small group of machines.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable switching between purchasing, tooling, and planning tasks.
- Strong communication skills with suppliers, machinists, and shop-floor personnel.
- Proficiency with purchasing software, Excel, and basic inventory or ERP tools.
- Shop personnel have a single reliable point of contact for materials, tooling, and schedule questions.
- Monitor tooling performance and cost; identify opportunities to standardize or reduce tooling spend. Coordinate tooling-related returns, warranties, and supplier issues.
Key Requirements
- Practical experience purchasing steel, industrial materials, experience preferred in MRO supply management systems.
- Working knowledge of CNC tooling and tooling management practices. Experience maintaining an inventory system (tooling crib, vending, or software-based preferred).
- Ability to create and adjust simple production schedules for a small group of machines.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable switching between purchasing, tooling, and planning tasks.
- Strong communication skills with suppliers, machinists, and shop-floor personnel.
- Proficiency with purchasing software, Excel, and basic inventory or ERP tools.
- Shop personnel have a single reliable point of contact for materials, tooling, and schedule questions.
