Salary Range:    $21.00 - $23.00 Hourly

Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director the Assistant Aquatics Director will assist in all aspects of managing the RCYMCA Aquatics Department including administration and finance, program development and management staffing and supervision, training and certification, safety and risk management, volunteer management, aquatic facility operations and implementation of the mission through the aquatics department and its programs.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 

Associate Degree or Bachelors preferred 

Strong organizational, computer and communication skills 

At least 2 years Aquatics program experience 

American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/AED/CPR Certification (instructor preferred) 

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification (must cross over to the YMCA certification within 6 months) 

Working knowledge of swimming pool operating system including filtration, pool chemistry, maintenance and upkeep 

Human Relations and customer service skills, good written and verbal communication skills, leadership skills and ability to be a team player in the RCYMCA required 

JOB SEGMENTS:

  • Follow all CDC and DOH guidelines as they apply to the program
  • Exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the UMCA mission and goals
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Aquatics to ensure the Aquatics Department communicates effectively, internally and externally
  • Assist in the development and implementation of all aquatic programs, including but not limited to parent/child, swim lessons, aqua exercise, lap swim , lifeguard training, pool rentals, summer camp swim lessons and all other aquatic programs
  • Provide direct program leadership and supervision.  75% of work schedule is teaching/overseeing progressive swim lessons, teaching aqua aerobics, scheduled time as lifeguard on duty, teaching lifeguard training classes
  • Provide excellent customer service by being responsive to phone calls and emails, communicating effectively
  • Maintain all required certifications at all times and ensuring all staff maintain all certification
  • Assist the Director to develop and manage an effective pool schedule and staffing
  • Assist the Director in implementing and evaluating a comprehensive offering of quality aquatic programming that is consistent with the YMCA Mission and that meet the needs of our members
  • Ensure that NYS Department of Health Code, operating standards and reporting are maintained at all times as well as follow the YMCA of the USA Aquatics Guidelines
  • Assist in the operation of pool and hot tub maintenance, management of pool chemistry and filtration systems including annual pool shutdown and cleaning
  • Assist in the supervision of all aquatic department staff including life guards and swim instructors
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in RCYMCA aquatics programs and activities by providing qualified instructors and lifeguards, conducting consistent, in-service staff safety training, safety inspections, and administering aquatic policies and rules
  •  
  • Participate in monthly (or as needed) aquatic staff meetings to review safety guidelines, best practice for risk management and swimming instruction and maintain as open dialogue between staff and director 

  • Oversee quality assurance for our swim instruction programs for all ages. Training and supporting instructors 

  • Work with Director to manage and monitor the annual aquatics department budget 

  • Share responsibility for the administration of the RCYMCA as a member of the management staff team and be involve in RCYMCA events and initiatives 

  • Be actively involved in all Aquatics activities – make yourself known to members and participants 

  • Any other job responsibilities as directed by the Aquatic Director or other RCYMCA Senior Staff 

EFFECT ON END RESULTS 

  • Continuous delivery of safe, aquatic programming and member services with a strong emphasis on the YMCA;s mission and values that are consistent with the YMCA of USA Aquatic Guidelines 

  • A strong staff and volunteer team who achieve the highest level of quality programs and member service with a focus on staff and member retention 

  • Steady enrollment and development of programs with an increasingly high percentage of retention, member satisfaction and meets the needs of our members and community 

  • A safe, clean and well managed aquatics department and pool facility for RCYMCA members, program member and community 

  • Sound administration of the department demonstrated by prudent financial management, risk management and positive public relations
