Headstart Custodian
Job Description:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of light custodial work in the care and maintenance of Head Start building and facilities for the Rockingham County Schools Early Learning Head Start Program. Work involves sweeping, mopping and using vacuum cleaners to clean floors; washing walls, woodwork and fixtures; and taking out the trash, picking up debris, etc. Reports to the Head Start Director.
Duties:
- Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture.
- Sweeps mops and vacuums floor surfaces.
- Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary.
- Cleans window, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures.
- Empties trash receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper receptacles.
- Sweeps sidewalks, picks up debris or performs other routing custodial work on building grounds.
- Performs other related work as required.
Knowledge, skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the standard methods, materials and equipment employed in custodial and janitorial work.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures and use of cleaning materials.
- Knowledge of local/state sanitation standard.
- Ability to instructions.
- Ability to perform medium physical work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, etc. Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are for Medium Work.
Minimum Qualification:
Some experience in custodial work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid Driver’s License.
