Summary
Rockingham County is an equal opportunity employer and will comply with federal and state statutes regarding discrimination in employment. Performs intermediate protective service work overseeing and conducting fire safety inspections of foster homes adult care homes, churches, schools, and all businesses. Review site and construction plans, responding to emergencies (medical and fire), prepare and maintain files and records, prepare reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Conduct fire investigations for Origin and cause to include prosecution of intentional fires. Work is performed under the general direction of the Fire Marshal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of county policies and procedures, the laws and ordinances pertaining to fire prevention and the construction and occupancy of buildings, State fire codes and related building codes, various NFPA standards, OSHA standards that apply to protective equipment, building plans and fire suppression systems, and local EMS protocols.
Comprehensive knowledge of the methods of readily ascertaining the presence of existing or potential fire hazards.
Comprehensive knowledge of fire suppression and prevention principles, practices, methods, and equipment.
Comprehensive knowledge of the hazards common to various types of construction and the storage of flammable and hazardous materials and explosives.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of fire investigations and fire educational and prevention programs.
Thorough knowledge of preparing detailed reports and other forms of correspondence, using standard office equipment and associated software; etc.
Ability to use measurements, camera, and other recording devices to document a fire scene.
Ability to drive routine and emergency traffic.
Ability to work with various local, state, and federal agencies.
Ability to recognize fire and safety hazards and to enforce codes.
Skills in using various computer programs.
Skills in providing lifesaving, firefighting, and rescue skills.
Skills to serve as a function of the Incident Command System.
Skills firefighting and rescue.
Skill to serve as a division leader in the Incident Command System.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and 1-4 years of direct related experience in firefighting, fire inspections or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
License or Certification Requirements:
Must have a valid NC Driver’s License.
Possession of NC Firefighter certification upon hire.
Fire Life Safety Education I, II, and III.
Certified Fire Investigator.
Must have a valid NC Driver’s License.
Possession of NC Firefighter certification upon hire.
Fire Life Safety Education I, II, and III.
Certified Fire Investigator.
